Demodern developed the world’s first product showroom in virtual reality for Swedish furniture company — IKEA. This 3D showroom enables the customer to experience products in an interactive way and to completely refurnish the place in VR.

In the VR experience, the classically IKEA voice, belonging to Jonas Bergström, welcomes you and introduces Smilla — your kindly Swedish neighbor, who leads you from this point through your new virtual loft and is on hand to help you out.
Our task was not only to develop a realistic 3D surround sound, but also to create sounds that depicted different everyday scenarios in virtual reality at four different times of the day. Gamification, which was developed just for this project, as well as UI and on-boarding sounds ensure maximum immersion.
The sound design and music were also optimized for the application using Unity, and the voices of the two main characters, Jonas and Smilla, were specifically recorded for this project, to introduce and assist customers on their journeys into the world of the IKEA brand. IKEA VR can be experienced as an installation at IKEA Lichtenberg live or in the Oculus Store.
