After many years of successful collaboration, we decided to set up a joint audiobook publishing house with Germany’s most successful children’s book author Cornelia Funke. Since 2016, we have been producing all new audiobooks together, as an independent publisher, under the name “Atmende Bücher” (translated as “Breathing Books”).

Cornelia Funke had this to say about the foundation of our new label: “I have always loved the spoken word. So, this is a small step in achieving my dream of turning my written words into audio books. I knew that German Wahnsinn were the perfect partners, from the first time I gave a reading to music on their stage. It was almost as if these melodies had always been part of my stories”.
We founded our own label in order to work as creatively as possible and create sound worlds for each book. Starting with the selection of the voice actor, to the creation of each distinctive score, to recording special sounds for the stories, we’re focused on total immersion and creating a sound DNA for Cornelia Funke’s books.
The merging of publisher, studio and author allows us to take on all aspects of the production of audio books and audio drama. We can take care of everything at the same time and the short feedback processes ensure that we can create audio books and audio dramas of the highest quality.
This is something that has been recognised by the numerous prizes we have been awarded and put our first release on the SPIEGEL bestseller list for twelve weeks.
As an independent, young and dynamic publisher, “Atmende Bücher” publishes audio books, both digital and physical, worldwide, and is always on the lookout for new, unusual ways to be modern, agile and up-to-date.
